A 48-year-old bicyclist died Thursday of injuries he suffered about a week earlier in a Avalon Park crash on the South Side.

John Jones, of the 4400 block of West Monroe Street, suffered multiple injuries in the crash that happened Sept. 15 at 7900 S. Stony Island Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Jones ran a red light at the intersection of South Stony Island and South Chicago Avenues when a car hit him, police said.

The driver was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and taken to Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center with minor injuries to the right arm, police said.

Jones died at 2:43 a.m. Thursday at Advocated Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, authorities said.

An autopsy Friday ruled his death an accident.
