Northwestern Memorial Hospital has been named one of the nation’s top 10 adult hospitals, according to new rankings released Tuesday.

Nearly 5,000 hospitals were considered in U.S. News and World Report’s best hospitals report. This year’s “honor roll” of top medical centers “recognizes 21 hospitals with outstanding performance across multiple areas of care,” according to its website.

Northwestern Memorial also ranks No. 1 in Illinois and in Chicago on U.S. News’ regional list.

The University of Chicago Medicine ranks No. 2 in the city and state in the annual report’s regional rankings.
