WASHINGTON–President Barack Obama on Monday meets with Nobel prize winners, Treasury Secretary Jack Lew and awards the Presidential Medal of Freedom to, among others, Chicago’s political and civic legend, Abner Mikva – five-term Congressman; Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit; White House Counsel for former President Bill Clinton; law professor at Northwestern University, the University of Chicago, and the University of Illinois.

In the morning, the President and Vice President will receive the Presidential Daily Briefing in the Oval Office. This meeting is closed press.

Later in the morning, the President will meet with Nobel Laureates in the Oval Office. This is closed press.

In the afternoon, the President will have lunch with the Vice President in the Private Dining Room. This lunch is closed press.

Following this, the President will meet with Secretary of the Treasury Lew in the Oval Office. This meeting is closed press.

Later in the afternoon, the President will present nineteen recipients the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the Nation’s highest civilian honor, presented to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.The Vice President and the First Lady will also attend. The ceremony is open to pre-credentialed media.
