The latest state tax report from financial services firm WalletHub ranks Illinois 39th in terms of the return on investment residents receive in government services compared to the amount of taxes they pay.

To get an overall ROI ranking, the report combined each state’s ranking in numerous government service areas including education, public safety, infrastructure and pollution.
