BENSENVILLE — Gov. Pat Quinn on Thursday announced a $69 million clean water initaitive to benefit four DuPage County communities.
The towns of Wood Dale, Addison, Elmhurst and Bensenville will receive millions of dollars to improve and upgrade their water treatment facilities.
The funds will come from the Illinois Clean Water Initiative.
“One of the big issues in our country is going to be access to clean water to waste water treatment. Other states have a lot of challenges. We’re lucky in Illinois that we have abundant water,” Quinn said. “So we got to keep fighting for water in Illinois because this is one of our competitive advantages.”
Bensenville Village Manager Michael Cassady said the initiative will bring new jobs. Bensenville just broke ground on a $30 million waste water treatment plant renovation.
“The plant was initially constructed in the 1940’s and has seen the end of its useful life,” he said. With the state’s help, the project will bring “hundreds of jobs for the next two years…whether it be construction, engineering, highly technical, biological and other sciences.”
