A pedestrian was seriously injured and a Chicago Police officer was hurt in a Fernwood neighborhood traffic crash Saturday night on the Far South Side.

The crash happened about 8 p.m. in the 10100 block of South Wentworth and involved a squad car, police said.

The pedestrian, a 50-year-old man, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition, police said. The officer was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park in good condition.

An off-duty Chicago police officer was driving early Thursday near House of Blues on State Street when she struck and killed a pedestrian, according to a police report and sources.

The officer was driving an Infiniti SUV in the 300 block of North State Street about 12:30 a.m. Thursday. She told officers she dropped her phone and took her eyes off the road to grab it, according to a police report.
