BUFFALO GROVE — Carmel senior Brienne Minor entered the state singles championship with a perfect record this year.

The Michigan commit hadn’t lost a set all season before she played Hinsdale Central sophomore Isabella Lorenzini in the state championship on Saturday afternoon, but that changed when Lorenzini won the first set against Minor.

Minor was able to rally, however, to beat Lorenzini 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, for the state singles title.

“It feels amazing,” Minor said. “I’m really happy and I’m proud of myself for doing it.”

With the win, Minor became the second Carmel player — and second member of her family — to win the state singles title in the last five years. Jasmine Minor, who now plays at Oregon, also went undefeated en route to her state championship in 2010.

Tiffany Chen, last year’s singles champion, finished third in singles. The Naperville Central junior beat Lyons freshman Meg Kowalski 7-5, 6-2 in the third-place match.

Stevenson’s Vinaya Rao and Katherine Harvey won the state doubles title. The pair — Rao is a junior, Harvey a freshman — beat Hinsdale Central’s Erika Oku, a sophomore, and Stephanie Dolehide, a freshman, 7-6 (4), 6-4. Their victory made them the second straight team from Stevenson to win the state doubles title. Alexxis Kiven and Kendall Kirsch won a year ago.

Hinsdale Central senior Rugile Valiunaite and junior Sandra Keta beat Lyons senior Megan Hickey and junior Stefana Vasic 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-4 to finish in third place.

Hinsdale Central secured the state team title on Friday, and the Red Devils finished the tournament with 49 points. Stevenson (40 points) took second, Lyons (33) was third and New Trier (22) finished in fourth.
