(ELMHURST) A ramp from the Eisenhower Extension to the Tri-State Tollway will be closed overnight Thursday, causing a significant detour for drivers.

Pavement grinding as part of a resurfacing project will close the ramp carrying eastbound traffic on the Ike (I-290) to the southbound Tri-State (I-294), the Illinois Tollway said. The closure starts at 9 p.m. and will reopen by 5 a.m. Friday.

A detour will have eastbound traffic continue to the Mannheim Road exit on the Eisenhower, where vehicles can turn around and take the westbound expressway back to southbound I-294, the tollway said.

The ramp work is part of a 15-year, $12 billion capital campaign, the tollway said. It is one of six ramps scheduled to undergo repair work this year near the the 1-290/I-88 interchange at I-294.
