WASHINGTON–The Illinois Senators split on the Keystone pipeline bill – Republican Sen. Mark Kirk a yes Democrat Sen. Dick Durbin a no – which failed to pass on Tuesday, falling a vote short of the 60 needed. The measure failed on a 59-14 rollcall and is expected to come up again after the Republicans take control of the chamber next year.
Kirk said in a statement, ”I look forward to another opportunity to support the Keystone XL pipeline under a Republican majority because the pipeline would make North America more energy independent from the instabilities of the Middle East. The pipeline will create jobs in Illinois while supporting our allies instead of our enemies.”
14 Democrats voted for the bill.
