Missing your weekly farmers markets, aren’t you?
Well, there’s no need. A number of Chicago markets haven’t let the cold weather end the access to locally grown produce and other foodstuff. They’ve just brought the goodies indoors. Among them:
The Green City Market has brought its vendors back into the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, 2430 N Cannon Dr. And actually, while the weather is still good, some of the market still operates right outside the museum. It is held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through November. Then it’s twice or once a month until the outdoor season resumes in May. Here’s the schedule. You’ll see many familiar faces selling; 38 vendors have signed up for the indoor market.
(I digress, but just wanted to mention the Green City Market has its fall fundraiser, A Mostly Veggie Affair: Cheat on Meat or Go Whole Beast!, from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Chop Shop & 1st Ward, 2033 W. North Ave. More details here.)
The Glenwood Sunday Market will have eight sessions where its sustainable and local food products will be available before it reopens outdoors next spring. The next one will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, at the Glenwood Bar, 6962 N. Glenwood. Here the schedule for the rest of the indoor season.
The Logan Square Indoor Market will be taking place every Sunday (well, except Nov. 30) through March 29. Fans of this market can’t say enough good about it. The market is in the old Pierre’s Bakery, 2755 N. Milwaukee. Once again its teaming up with the Nosh Chicago. So a visit there gives you locally grown produce AND treats from Chicago chefs and restaurants. How tasty does that sound? The hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The organization Local Harvest holds indoor farmers markets at various congregations throughout the city and suburbs in late fall and winter. Here is the schedule.
The 61st Street Farmers Market is indoors through mid-December at the Experimental Station, 6100 S. Blackstone. The market hours are 9 a.m .to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Here are more details.
Outside the city, Evanston’s Indoor Farmers Market returns for its fourth year on Dec. 6. It is held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays, beginning Dec. 6, at the Evanston Ecology Center, 2024 McCormick Blvd. Like last year, about 40 vendors are expected to participate.
