A man died Sunday morning after he was struck by a car driven by a drunken driver in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

About 3:10 a.m., the 24-year-old man was getting into his vehicle in the 5300 block of South Western when he was struck by a southbound Chevrolet Impala, police said.

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 8:19 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The man’s name was not released Monday pending notification of his relatives.

An autopsy Monday found the man died of multiple injuries when he was struck by the car. His death was ruled an accident.

The 29-year-old woman driving the Impala was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where she refused medical attention, police said.

As of Monday afternoon, she has been charged with one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol, and cited for operating a vehicle without insurance, police said.
