Underground music takes over the Pedway

SHARE Underground music takes over the Pedway

If you don’t work or travel in the heart of the Loop, you might not know that Block 37 (now a large mall at 108 N. State street ) is hosting an underground music series in their part of the Pedway.

All acts take the “stage” at 5 p.m. in the Pedway under Block 37, up to September. And unlike most street corner acts, the Pedway performers are usually on the come-up. This evening, the jazz funk group Spare Parts will perform and starting next week, on the 23rd the Jared Bartman Duo drops by, followed on the 24th by Carbon Tigers.

Here’s a bit of what you can expect from Spare Parts.

Here’s the rest of July’s lineup:

· 25-When Clouds Attack

· 28-Mer

· 30-Modern Sounds

· 31- Dave Sills Lo-Power Trio

Block 37 has done a good job of making itself relevant lately. There’s a Disney Store, Magnolia Bakery, Bucketfeet, Akira and a Hottix on the property. Plus, the Chicago Design Museum recently selected the third floor of the building as their new home. I profiled the CDM a few weeks ago but you can read the story below.
