North Chicago clinches share of North Suburban Prairie title

THE SKINNY

The host Warhawks used a 13-2 run to start the second quarter and a 15-2 run at the start of the third quarter to blow past the Eagles and clinch a tie for their sixth straight North Suburban Conference Prairie Division title. North Chicago (18-3 overall, 10-0 division) had star guard JayQuan McCloud on the court after a three-week absence (bad ankle). Lakes is 10-12 and 6-3.

THE TURNING POINT

There were two of them. It was 21-15 Warhawks after the first quarter, and 34-17 midway through the second period after the 13-2 run. Then, from 40-25 at halftime, North Chicago scored 15 of the first 17 points in the third quarter to make it 55-27.

THE STAR

Kurt Hall led all scorers in the game with 20 points and 14 boards, and had a pair of thunder dunks.

BY THE NUMBERS

For the winners, Javairius Amos-Mays scored 17 points. For Lakes, Ethan Sage and Michal Tomasiewicz each had 12 points.

QUOTABLE

“After coming back from Vernon Hills and Grant (a pair of shaky wins), we worked a lot on teamwork. We’re not interested in the 70-80 point game. As we go into the playoffs, we need to play as a team, especially on defense. I was very proud of them tonight. I thought they played together. There was no selfish play out there.” — North Chicago coach King Coleman
