Woman, 59, shot in Chatham

A 59-year-old woman was shot while walking in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side Tuesday evening.

About 5:25 p.m., the woman was walking in the 8900 block of South Cottage Grove when she heard several gunshots, police said.

She was taken to Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center with a gunshot wound to her right ankle, police said. She was listed in good condition.

Police do not believe she was the intended target.
