Illinois flirts with $2 gas

Hitting a century mark is usually a big deal. It’s even bigger when it is the price of gasoline — and it is going down.

Illinois’ average price for a gallon of regular gas is flirting with $2 a gallon. The AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report on Wednesday put the statewide average price at $2.04 a gallon, down two cents from Tuesday and down $1.35 from a year ago.

Gas prices are already under $2 a gallon in many parts of the state. Chicago is throwing off the curve, checking in at $2.42 a gallon Wednesday. The metro area is cheaper at $2.18 a gallon but still has some ground to give up to hit the $2 mark.

Here are average prices around the state from AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report

  • Bloomington-Normal, $1.85
  • Champaign-Urbana, $2.08
  • Chicago Metro, $2.18
