Hospira Inc. plans to have a new infusion system available in the United States within weeks after it received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The Lake Forest maker of injectable drugs and infusion systems said Tuesday its Plum 360 system with Hospira MedNet had been cleared by the FDA. The system offers an expanded drug library and wireless capabilities.

“Hospira is excited to announce clearance of the Plum 360 infusion system in the United States — another important milestone in our continued path to streamline and modernize our device portfolio,” said David J. Endicott, president of Hospira Medical Devices.
