(MOUNT PROSPECT) State child welfare authorities are investigating the death of a 6-month-old girl at her Mount Prospect home Wednesday morning.

Emergency crews were called about 9:30 a.m. to the home in the 1100 block of South Sprucewood Drive for a report of an unresponsive infant, according to Mount Prospect police.

Leyna Garcia was pronounced dead at at the scene at 9:38 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy performed Thursday was inconclusive.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating allegations of neglect against the girl’s mother and father, spokeswoman Veronica Resa said. The department has not had any prior contact with the family, and the investigation is pending.

Police declined to provide further details Saturday night, citing the ongoing investigation.
