Man found shot to death in Gary

A 52-year-old man died early Sunday after he was found shot near his home in northwest Indiana.

Officers responded to the 500 block of Chase Street about 11:30 p.m. and found Sherman Cole with a gunshot wound to the head, according to Gary police and the Lake County coroner’s office.

Cole, who lived in the same block where the shooting occurred, was taken to Northlake Methodist Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 12:59 a.m. Sunday, according to police and the coroner’s office. His death has been ruled a homicide.
