A man was critically wounded in a shooting in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood on the Northwest Side Monday evening.

About 5:22 p.m., the 40-year-old was outside in the 6600 block of West Fullerton when he was shot in the upper leg, police said.

He was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood in critical condition, police said.

A police source said the man may have been shot during a narcotics transaction.

Police say three thieves attempting to steal a Ferrari and Range Rover early Monday were confronted by the owner. The thieves fired at the owner, who returned fire. The thieves fled. No arrests have been made.
