Pair charged with robbing cab drivers in Skokie

Two men have been charged with robbing two cab drivers at gunpoint earlier this month in north suburban Skokie.

Filbert Elonge, 21, and 19-year-old Dennis Elonge were each charged with two felony counts of armed robbery, according to a statement from Skokie police. Filbert Elonge was also charged with a felony count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, two misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and a misdemeanor count of criminal trespass to a residence.

The pair robbed a cab driver at 3:51 a.m. Nov. 15 near Lavergne Avenue and Greenwood Street, police said. They robbed another cab driver later that day at 5:25 p.m. near Lavergne and Suffield Court.

In both cases, cash and a cellphone or tablet were stolen from the drivers, police said.

Bond for Filbert Elonge was set at $150,000, while Dennis Elonge’s bond was set at $100,000, police said. They were both expected to appear in court again Dec. 8.
