Man shot to death in West Englewood

A 26-year-old man was shot to death in the West Englewood neighborhood Saturday evening on the South Side, police said.

Just after 5 p.m., Tyris Washington was in the backyard of a home in the 6600 block of South Marshfield when someone got out of a vehicle, walked up and started shooting, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He suffered wounds to the abdomen and hand and was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:45 p.m., authorities said.

Washington’s home address wasn’t immediately available.
