A west suburban man has been charged with murder for the fatal shooting a man during a brawl outside a large party in Aurora last summer, according to police.

Marquitte L. West, 22, of Aurora faces three counts of first degree murder for the shooting death of Derrick Page, 23, during a disturbance outside the party in a rental hall in the 600 block of North Lake Street on Sept. 5, according to a statement from Aurora police.

Page, of the 2200 block of Covington Lane in Plainfield, was shot at about 12:45 a.m. near Lake Street and Illinois Avenue after attending the party. “A disturbance erupted outside the get-together, causing the attendees to run out of the building toward Illinois Avenue and across Lake Street,” police said. “A fight then ensued on the east side of Lake and at least one shot was fired which struck Page in the head.”

Page had apparently been coming to help a friend who was “involved in the altercation,” police said.

He died Sept. 6 at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where he was airlifted after being treated at an Aurora hospital.

Charges against West were authorized in early October and an arrest warrant issued Oct. 14, but West “fled to Virginia, so the charges were sealed until he could be brought back to Illinois,” police said.

West, of the 1000 block of Woodview Court in Aurora, is being held in the Will County Jail on an unrelated charge, according to Aurora police.

The same party resulted in armed robbery charges being field against Marcus L. Hall, 21, of Joliet, for holding up two 20-year old men from Normal who were attending the event, police said.

In that robbery, which occurred outside the hall just before the shooting, about $3,300 in jewelry, cash and other items were taken from the men at gunpoint.

Police said Hall “apparently has no connection to Page’s murder.” He is being held on a $500,000 bond in the Kane County Correctional Center.

Police interviewed dozens of witnesses about the events surrounding the party, and anyone with information about the shooting or the robberies should call police at (630) 256-5500 or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $5000 for information that leads to any arrests.
