EA Sports announced Monday that Rory McIlroy will be the new face in its series of golf video games.

McIlroy supplants Tiger Woods, who has been the name and face of the video game series since 1998, reports Golf Digest.

Woods was the No. 1 golfer in the world when the game first launched featuring his name and face. Now McIlroy is the game’s top player.

“When you grow up playing golf you never really dream of being a character in a video game, let alone the guy on the box,” McIlroy told GolfDigest.com. “The technology powering the game is incredible. The courses are absolutely gorgeous, and looking at screenshots from the game you think someone just took a photo of the actual holes.”

Woods currently ranks 87th in the PGA Tour and has finished in the top 25 just once in the nine events he’s played in the last 15 months.
