Part of Irving Park Road closed in Bensenville for four months

Irving Park Road between York and South Access road in northwest suburban Bensenville will be closed for the next four months, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced Monday.

The half-mile closure was prompted by several truck drivers ignoring a posted detour sign warning them of a low bridge, which resulted in “a large number” of them hitting the new railway bridge since it reopened Sunday evening, IDOT said in a statement.

Eastbound and westbound traffic along Irving Park will be closed between York and South Access immediately, IDOT said.

Two detours will be posted while construction takes place:

  • Eastbound traffic along Irving Park will turn north on to York, then east on Touhy Avenue, east on to Higgins Road and then south on Mannheim Road.
  • Westbound traffic will turn north on Mannheim, then west on Higgins and south on York, IDOT said.

South Access will remain open to O’Hare International Airport cargo deliveries during the closure and accessible with the detour route.
