Man shot near Chatham elementary school

A man was wounded in a shooting near a Chatham neighborhood elementary school Monday night.

About 8:15 p.m., the 19-year-old was in the 8000 block of South Normal when a gray van pulled up and someone inside opened fire, police said. The van then drove off, south on Normal.

The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with a gunshot wound to his leg, police said. His condition had stabilized.

The shooting occurred on the same block as Westcott Elementary School.
