A Chicago man who went on the lam for nearly three years after being arrested on drug charges managed to avoid arrest for another week after being convicted and sentenced.
But 57-year-old Mark Dougherty’s luck ran out this week when FBI agents, acting on a tip received by the Cook County sheriff’s Central Warrant Unit, arrested him in the Minneapolis–St. Paul area on Tuesday, a statement from the sheriff’s office said.
Now being held in the Hennepin County Jail in Minneapolis, he will be returned to Illinois after an extradition hearing to face a 20-year prison sentence handed down by a Cook County judge last week.
Dougherty was originally arrested by Chicago Police in February 2011 after officers found methamphetamine and other drugs at his home in the 6700 block of North Clark Street, police said.
After being released on bond, Dougherty stopped coming to court in May 2012, police said. And while he was a fugitive, he was convicted of delivery of methamphetamine.
