Cary man charged with robbing Fifth Third bank in Woodstock

A northwest suburban man suspected of robbing two Fifth Third Bank branches in the last three weeks is in federal custody after being charged with one of the robberies.

Michael Feterick, also known as “Michael Retterly,” was charged Wednesday with robbing the Fifth Third branch at 1745 S. Eastwood Dr. in Woodstock earlier in the day, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office in Rockford.

He went to the bank about 10:50 a.m. Wednesday and handed a teller a note written in black Sharpie and reading, “Money, no dye pack,” according to federal prosecutors. He then ran out with an undisclosed amount of cash before driving away, according to Woodstock police.

He was arrested late Wednesday at an Algonquin hotel by the FBI agents and police officers from Crystal Lake and Woodstock, according to prosecutors.

Feterick is scheduled for an initial hearing before U.S. Magistrate Judge Iain Johnston at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Rockford.

He is also suspected in a bank robbery just over two weeks ago in Crystal Lake.

That robbery happened at the Fifth Third branch at 265 W. Virginia St. at 4:18 p.m. on March 30, according to the FBI.

He did not show or imply a weapon in either robbery.
