Elgin man pleads guilty to sexually assaulting minor

An Elgin man pleaded guilty Thursday to sexually assaulting a child five years ago.

Alejandro Avelino-Consela, 49, pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual assault, a Class X felony, according to the Kane County state’s attorney’s office. Judge Susan Clancy Boles accepted the plea.

Prosecutors said Avelina-Consela, of the 500 block of Locust Street in Elgin, knew his victim, whom he sexually assaulted between Jan. 1 and Nov. 22, 2010. The victim was under 18 at the time.

He faces a sentence of 6-30 years in prison, prosecutors said. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 12.
