Bicyclist killed in West Englewood hit-and-run

A man died after he was hit by a car while riding a bicycle in the West Englewood neighborhood Monday afternoon.

About 1:30 p.m., Michael Joseph, 59, was riding a bike west in the 1200 block of West 74th Street when a light-colored Chevrolet sedan also traveling west hit him from behind, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The sedan then drove off west on 74th Street and then north on Loomis, police said.

Joseph, of the 1400 block of West 71st Place, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 1:46 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

The police Major Accidents Investigations Unit is handling the incident.
