A northwest suburban man has been charged with downloading and distributing child pornography from his McHenry County home.

Luis Ortiz of the 4800 block of Bonner Drive in McHenry, faces eight counts of distribution of child pornography and single counts of reproduction and possession, according to the McHenry County sheriff’s office.

Authorities launched an investigation two months ago after receiving a tip that Ortiz was sharing child pornography online, and a search warrant was executed Tuesday at his home, sheriff’s police said.

A judge ordered Ortiz held on a $200,000 bond Thursday, according to the sheriff’s office. He is scheduled to appear in court again Friday.

Sheriff’s police said additional charges could be filed against Ortiz. Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to call detectives at (815) 338-2144.
