Burglars broke into a sports apparel store on State Street in the Loop early Thursday and stole nearly 50 Blackhawks jerseys.

The burglary happened at the Lids store at 125 S. State St. about 4 a.m., according to police.

A store employee said the burglars used a hammer to break a glass handicapped door, and took 49 Blackhawks jerseys that were on display. No other merchandise was taken.

The burglars were caught on surveillance footage and were wearing all black clothing with face masks and gloves, the employee said. They stuffed the jerseys inside a black bag before running off.

The employee said it was the first time the store has been burglarized. The store also has an entrance inside the Palmer House hotel.

No one in custody. Area Central detectives are investigating.
