Suspect in custody in Willowbrook stabbing, sexual assault

A suspect was taken into custody Tuesday in connection with the stabbing and sexual assault of a woman in southwest suburban Willowbrook.

According to a statement from Willowbrook Police, a suspect was taken into custody in South Bend, Indiana, and was being interviewed by investigators Tuesday night. No charges have been filed, and further details were not available late Tuesday.

About 1 p.m. Saturday, a man forced his way into a woman’s home in the 700 block of 73rd Court, beat and stabbed her multiple times, and sexually assaulted her, Willowbrook Police have said.

The woman told detectives she was unloading her vehicle in the driveway when a dark brown or blue, older model Nissan Altima pulled up, and a man got out and asked for money. She refused and went inside, but the man went to a side door of the home and knocked, asking to use the phone, police said.

He then broke in and attacked her with “an unknown sharp object,” police said. The man later took off in the Nissan, which had no front license plate and a sun or wind visor on the roof.

Brookfield Police spotted a parked vehicle Sunday night that was thought to be the suspect’s car. The vehicle was removed and was processed by evidence technicians on Monday, police said.

Authorities released a sketch of the suspect Sunday.
