One man was killed and at least six other people were wounded in shootings Thursday on the city’s South and West sides.
The 21-year-old man was shot to death Thursday afternoon in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side.
He was walking in the 1600 block of North Francisco about 2:30 p.m. when two males walked up, one of them produced a gun and opened fire, police said. The males then ran away northbound.
The man was shot in the torso, arm and lower back and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the fatality, but did not release additional details.
A police source said the man was a documented gang member.
The most recent nonfatal shooting happened about 7:50 p.m. in the South Shore neighborhood.
A 35-year-old man was crossing the street southbound in the 2400 block of East 75th Street when a male dressed in all black walked up and opened fire, police said. The man was shot in the abdomen and taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital.
About two hours earlier, a man was shot and seriously injured in the South Side Englewood neighborhood.
The man, 20, was standing in the 6800 block of South Morgan about 5:30 p.m. when someone walked up and opened fire, police said. He was shot in the abdomen and was taken in serious condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
At the same time, a man was shot in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side.
The 23-year-old was sitting in a parked vehicle in the 200 block of East 103rd about 5:30 p.m. when another vehicle drove past and someone inside fired shots, police said. The man was shot in the right leg, police said. As of 6 p.m., he was in good condition, being treated at the scene.In a separate Roseland neighborhood attack about 10 minutes earlier, a 16-year-old boy was injured in a drive-by shooting.The teenager was standing outside near 107th Street and Indiana Avenue about 5:20 p.m. when a vehicle pulled up and someone inside opened fire, police said. He suffered a “through and through” gunshot wound to the right leg and was taken to Roseland Community Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.About 3:20 p.m., a man was shot in the Ashburn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.The 38-year-old suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the 2400 block of West 79th Street, police said. He was taken in serious condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.Thursday’s first shooting happened about 4:05 a.m. in the South Side Grand Boulevard neighborhood.
Police responding to a call of shots fired in the 4800 block of South Calumet found the 22-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his leg, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. He was unable to tell the police what happened, police said.
