Closure at South Shore Line in Burnham

Burnham Avenue will be closed to traffic at the South Shore railroad tracks in south suburban Burnham for 12 days starting Monday.

Repairs to the railroad crossing, weather permitting, will begin at 8 a.m. Monday, just south of Brainard Avenue, according to IDOT.

A detour will be posted.

Traffic on southbound Burnham Avenue will be directed to Brainard Avenue, Gostlin Avenue, Sheffield Avenue, Chicago Street, Calumet Avenue (U.S. 41) and River Oaks Drive (165^th) to reconnect with Burnham Avenue. Northbound traffic will follow the reverse route, according to IDOT.

The project will be complete by 7 a.m. Saturday, Sept.26.

Motorists should expect delays, allow for extra travel time, and pay special attention to flaggers, signs, workers and equipment in work zones, IDOT said.
