An “unruly passenger” temporarily diverted a flight bound for Chicago in Indianapolis on Monday evening.

About 5:45 p.m., American Airlines flight 1284 — traveling to Chicago from Miami — had to land in Indianapolis after a passenger became unruly, American Airlines spokeswoman Laura Masvidal said.

The passenger was removed from the plane and taken into the custody of the Indianapolis Airport Police, Masvidal added.

The Boeing 737 had 160 passengers and six crew members on board at the time, she said.
