Carroll had a 7-4 record with a 3.47 ERA in 16 starts for Charlotte this season. With the major league club last season, he notched a 5-10 record and a 4.80 ERA in 26 appearances.

The 30-year-old comes to Chicago just two days after the White Sox needed seven innings from their bullpen in a 14-inning victory over the Oakland Athletics. Tuesday, two position players were used as pitchers in a 17-6 blowout by the A’s.

In the majors, Carroll has gone 6-11 with a 5.51 ERA in 39 games. He has a 34-42 record to pair with a 3.90 ERA lifetime as professional.
