A 67-year-old woman was killed in a crash with a semi truck Wednesday afternoon in northwest suburban Kane County.

The crash happened about 3:45 p.m. on Plank Road near the intersection of Switzer Road, just south of Pingree Grove, according to a statement from the Kane County sheriff’s office.

A 2006 GMC Yukon was heading east on Plank Road and left the road on the south side, then re-entered the road and struck a 2004 Freightliner semi-tractor, police said. The SUV then caught fire.

The driver and sole occupant of the SUV, identified as 67-year-old Faith Huml of Rochelle, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The driver of the semi, a 58-year-old Rockford man, was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Plank Road was closed between Murihead Road and Switzer Road for at least six hours after the crash.

Kane County sheriff’s detectives and the Accident Reconstruction Team are investigating the cause of the crash, police said. No tickets have been issued.
