Woman fatally hit by car in Bartlett

A 54-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car Monday morning in northwest suburban Bartlett.

About 5:30 a.m., Usha Patel was trying to walk across Route 20 near Lambert Lane when she was struck by a Chevrolet Cruze, according to Bartlett police and the Kane County coroner’s office.

She was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin, where she was pronounced dead at 6:30 a.m., authorities said.

Patel, a Bartlett resident, died of multiple injuries in the crash. A final ruling on her manner of death is pending toxicology tests.

The driver stayed at the scene and wasn’t expected to be charged or ticketed, police said.
