No tickets issued after bicyclist fatally struck in Aurora

A bicyclist was hit and killed by a car Saturday morning in west suburban Aurora.

Lonnie Wilkinson was riding her bike with a group of people westbound on the Virgil Gilman Nature Trail when she was struck by a southbound car just before 11 a.m. as she crossed Densmore Road, according to Aurora city spokesman Dan Ferrelli.

Wilkinson, a 66-year-old Des Plaines resident, was taken to a hospital where she later died, Ferrelli said. She had been wearing a helmet, officials said.

The driver, a Sugar Grove man, stayed at the scene and showed “no outward signs of alcohol or drug use at the scene,” Ferrelli said. Neither the driver nor his two teenage passengers were injured.

No tickets were issued in the crash, police said Monday afternoon.
