A woman died after she drove a truck into Lake Michigan Sunday afternoon in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

She has been identified as 22-year-old Ashley A. Fitzmaurice, of Kenosha, according to Kenosha police.

The vehicle went into Kenosha Harbor about 2 p.m., near 56th Street and 3rd Avenue, police said.

Witnesses told police that the driver accelerated the truck from the Best Western parking lot, hit a curb and a sidewalk before becoming airborne and flying into the harbor, Kenosha police Lt. Brad Hetlet said. The truck was found upside down in about 15 feet of water.

The Kenosha fire department’s dive team responded and pulled the body of the woman from the lake, Hetlet said. She was alone in the vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation.
