Cubs manager Joe Maddon will be featured Thursday (9:30 p.m.) in a Comcast SportsNet Chicago documentary entitled “Going Home.”
The half-hour show will take viewers back to Maddon’s roots in Hazleton, Pa., where he grew up and where his mom, Beanie, still works in the local dinette.
At one point in the show, Maddon describes his first meeting with Cubs’ president of baseball Theo Epstein:
“They brought a Pinot Noir and, at the time, if I drank red wine at all, I would drink Pinot Noir,” Maddon said. “So they bring this bottle of wine in a brown paper bag and it was all very casual. We just sat at the beach and talked and it wasn’t necessarily all about baseball. I think they knew before that their visions aligned and that their philosophies aligned a lot, but I think this was just ‘let’s just verify this.”
The Maddon show will be replayed at 9:30 p.m. on Friday and 9 p.m. on Jan. 18.
CSN Chicago also has a “Coming Home” documentary planned for January about White Sox slugger Jose Abreu and his recent trip back to Cuba.
