The harvest rate for deer by Illinois deer hunters continues at lower levels than last year, and signs come of the building rut as the percentage of does in the harvest drops.
In other signs of the building rut is the photo above from Tim Walmsley of two bucks, who tangled in battle in Adams County and died.
Here is the harvest update from Illinois Department of Natural Resources:
ARCHERY DEER Through Sunday, October 23, 2016, Illinois archery deer hunters harvested a preliminary total of12,387 deer, compared to 14,773 for the same period in 2015. A table of county results is attached. Up-to-date archery harvest figures (for either deer or turkey) by county/state sites can be tracked on the web at http://www.dnr.illinois.gov/hunting/Pages/IDNRHarvestQuery.aspx Paul Shelton, Manager Forest Wildlife Program
