Dead body found in Gary woods, police suspect foul play

Authorities suspect foul play after a man’s body was found in a wooded area Friday morning in northwest Indiana with gunshot wounds.

A work crew was cutting trees at 9:24 a.m. in the 5000 block of West 20th Place in Gary, Indiana, when workers found the body in the woods, according to a statement from the Gary Police Department.

Michael J. Washington, 28, was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene at 10:20 a.m., according to the Lake County coroner’s office. He lived in the 4400 block of West 23rd Avenue in Gary.
