Downers Grove man fatally shot in Humboldt Park

A west suburban man was fatally shot early Sunday in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side.

Officers responding to a call of shots fired about 12:45 a.m. found 31-year-old Gilbert Leroy Wainwright III lying on the sidewalk in the 3400 block of West Hirsch, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Wainwright had suffered a gunshot wound to the face and was taken to Norwegian American Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:54 a.m., authorities said. He lived in the 3900 block of Williams Street in Downers Grove.
