Chicago’s fashionista set is sure to be front and center Tuesday night as the Costume Council of the Chicago History Museum honors famed designer Bob Mackie with the group’s Designer of Excellence Award.
Co-chaired by local civic and social leaders Linda Johnson Rice, Nina Mariano and Robin Loewenberg Tebbe, the gala event will be held at the museum on North Clark Street beginning at 6 p.m.
Mackie’s impact on the world of fashion has been enormous. The designer is perhaps best known for his extravagant evening ensembles — frequently worn by such Hollywood stars as Cher, Carol Burnett, Pink, Jennifer Lopez, Barbra Streisand, Tina Turner, Diana Ross and even Elton John.
However, in addition to his clothing creations, Mackie also has worked in the worlds of home furnishings and fragrance.
Past honorees who have been recipients of the Designer of Excellence Award have included James Galanos, Christian Lacroix, Sonia Rykiel, Hubert du Givenchy, Geoffrey Beene, Bill Blass and Ralph Rucci.
