Man dies after being shot Friday in Chatham

A man died Saturday, one day after he was shot Friday in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side.

Michael Montgomery, 25, was found by officers lying on the sidewalk in the 8200 block of South Maryland about 12:19 a.m. Friday, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Montgomery, who lived a block away in the 8300 block of South Maryland, was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, authorities said. He died at Christ at 3:10 p.m. Saturday.

An autopsy found he died of a gunshot wound to the neck and his death was ruled a homicide.
