Man dies after jumping from Loop parking garage

A man who died after jumping from a Loop parking garage Monday afternoon has been identified as a northwest suburban resident.

The 34-year-old jumped from a garage in the 100 block of West Lake Street about 1:30 p.m., according to Chicago Police.

Christopher A. Mergle, 54, of Elgin was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:42 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy showed he died of multiple injuries due to a fall from height, and ruled his death a suicide.
