A 16-year-old boy was shot Monday afternoon in the East Side neighborhood, according to preliminary information from Chicago Police.

He was walking about 4:25 p.m. in the 9700 block of South Avenue L when a vehicle pulled up and someone inside shot him in the hip and buttocks, police said.

He was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital in serious condition, police said.
