Chicago Police closed the entrances to Montrose Beach to car traffic Monday because of overcrowding.

About 11:20 a.m., police closed the Lake Shore Drive entrances at Wilson and Montrose avenues, according to Chicago Police. People are still allowed to enter the beach area on foot.

It was not immediately known when the entrances would reopen to traffic.
