A man was shot to death early Thursday in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side.

Negeal Smith, 20, was sitting in the backseat of a vehicle in the 1400 block of South Lawndale at 12:05 a.m. when a male walked up and fired shots, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Smith, shot in the head, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

Smith lived in the 3600 block of West Douglas Blvd., about two blocks from the shooting scene, the medical examiner’s office said.

A police source said he was a documented gang member.

The men, 18 and 20, were in the 1800 block of West Monroe Street about 9:20 p.m. when two people got out of a light-colored sedan and fired shots. They were hospitalized in fair condition.
